ADGS General Meeting

The annual general meeting of the ADGS will take place on
Sunday, October 16 at 11:00 am. It is being held at the
Eastview Community Hall: 120 Ellenwood Drive, Red Deer, Alberta.

In addition to discussing a variety of other topics, we will be holding the elections for 2017 Executive positions and will be reviewing the annual financial statements.

As the meeting starts at 11 am, we will have a potluck lunch after the meeting. Please feel free to bring hot food as the hall has a kitchen.

You can also renew your memberships at the meeting for both
the Alberta Dahlia and Gladiolus Society (ADGS) and
the American Dahlia Society (ADS). The cost for these memberships are as follows:
ADGS Single ($20/yr); ADGS Family ($25/yr)
ADS Single ($30/yr); ADS Family ($33/yr); ADS Student ($5/yr)

Senior Judges are welcome to all courses as their participation enriches the learning opportunities for all participants.

Piper Creek Trial Garden Workbees

Date: Tuesdays – June 20, June 27, July 4, July 11, July 18,  July 25, August 1, August 8, and August 15, August 22, 2017
Where: Piper Creek Trial Garden
Time: 10am – (until the work is done)
Activities: Help out at Canada’s only dahlia Trial Garden! See new varieties being assessed, learn all about Pruning, Hoeing, Disbudding, Colour Coding, and Scoring from the experts. Participants will also be given the opportunity to evaluate entries should they wish.

Garden Party!!

Date: July 29, 2017
Where: Piper Creek Trial Garden
Time: 3pm to sunset; Dinner at 5pm
Activities: A party at the Trial Garden to celebrate dahlias with the public and members! Beef on a Bun provided, donation to the Society requested to help cover costs. Members are asked to bring a potluck salad to share. BYOBeverage (non-alcoholic)

Dahlia Judging Course  (Pre-registration recommended)

Activities: This course is for beginners and will teach participants to identify the various forms of dahlias in preparation for show judging.

Flower Arranging Workshop (Pre-registration recommended)

Activities:  Participants will be given information and the opportunity to create a flower arrangement. Bring your own container.

Colour Coding Dahlias

Activities: Participants will do the final colour coding of entries in the trial garden for evaluation.

Gladiolus Judging Course

Judging Seminars

Ken has planned the following judging seminars for the 2015 year (these will be held at the Piper Creek Trial Garden – across from the Red Deer Waste Management Facility); they are open to all including those who wish to judge and those prefer to observe:

Judging Course – Advanced 

Date: July 11, 2015
Where: Piper Creek Trial Garden

Includes Seedling Judging. Bring a bag lunch. It is helpful if participants have taken the introductory course but it will be open to all.

Team Scoring and Work Bee

ADGS Annual General Meeting

Hello Fellow Gardeners,

Below is the Agenda for the ADGS Annual General Meeting to be held on October 4, 2014, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at the Eastview Community Center (120 Ellenwood Drive, Red Deer).

There will be a Potluck Lunch following the General Meeting.  There is a stove so it’s okay to bring hot food.

After the potluck, Lorne McArthur will lead a discussion about storing and caring for tubers and corms over the winter.

Melody (with the help of Eileen) will be available to take 2015 Membership dues for both the ADGS and the ADS.  The cost for these memberships are as follows:  ADGS Single ($20); ADGS Family ($25); ADS Single ($30); ADS Family ($33); and ADS Student ($5).
