Junior Judging Workshop

Hello ADGS Members,

Are you growing dahlias but are unfamiliar with what the differences are between the varieties and how to tell a beautiful flower from a spectacular flower?  If so, you might wish to register for this workshop.
The Judging Workshop is open to all members but tailored for those who have not previously taken a dahlia judging class.  
You will be introduced to the Classification and Handbook of Dahlias put out by the American Dahlia Society and be taught about the various forms, colours and sizes of dahlias (including understanding the 4-digit class numbers).
Once you have taken this course, you will be offered the opportunity to have some hands-on experience by being paired with a senior judge at the Alberta Dahlia and Gladiolus Society Show on August 24th and 25th (Bower Mall).

The workshop will be held at the Piper Creek Trial Garden on Sunday, August 10th from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Piper Creek Trial Garden is on the property of Lorne and Marilyn McArthur (across from the Red Deer Waste Management Facility).

Annual Dahlia Show Volunteers

Request for Volunteers for the Annual Dahlia and Gladiolus Show
August 22 – 24, 2014
Bower Place Centre, Red Deer, AB

The ADGS Planning Committee for the Dahlia and Gladiolus Show is recruiting volunteers to help out with this event. volunteers are needed for the following:

  • Set Up – August 22         

o   Time: 6-8pm

o   Duties: set up tables, chairs, staging area, signs

  •  Recorders and Runners during Judging – August 23

o   Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm

o   Recorders: record the results. A recorder will be assigned to each judging group. There will be an orientation.

o   Runners: take flowers/arrangements to head table

  •  Information Table – Saturday, August 23

o   Times: 10:00am – noon; noon  – 2:00; 2:00 – 4:00pm

o   Duties: obtain memberships, provide business cards/brochures to the public and answer any questions about the show. There will be an orientation.

  • Information Table – Sunday, August 24

o   Times: 12:00 – 3:00pm

o   Duties: as above

  • Selling Flowers – Sunday, August 24

o   Time: 3:30 – 4:00pm

  • Supervision of Arrangements Table – Sunday, August 24

o   Time: 3:15 – 4:00pm

o   Duties: supervise Arrangements table so that Arrangements are not taken by the public

  • Clean Up – Sunday, August 24

o   Time: 4:00 – 5:30pm
